Pilot Pressing Waste Bin launched in Zwolle
Start trial of pressing waste bin in Zwolle center
VConsyst started a 3-month pilot with a compactor waste bin in Zwolle on Thursday, Nov. 10. In cooperation with ROVA, VConsyst’s Bammens Citypole Compactor is being tested at a busy location in Zwolle’s shopping street. Annet Jochemsen, CCO of VConsyst, kicked off the testing phase with the official unveiling of the bin.
Litter bins are an important means of preventing litter. A tidy public space is linked to sufficient litter bins, which must also be emptied on time. At the same time, litter bins must also fit into the living environment in terms of size and design. Design and functionality must go hand in hand.

Up to six times more volume
With the Bammens Citypole Compactor, VConsyst has designed a trash can that looks nice and fits well in the inner city in terms of size. At the same time, the bin can store up to 6 times more waste. A press module compresses the waste with a force of 200 kg. The water- and dust-proof finished mechanism is powered by a battery that, via a solar panel, always has enough power to operate autonomously.
Management Environment
“This pilot in Zwolle gives us the opportunity to test this smart product in practice together with our partner ROVA,” Jochemsen says. “With this innovation we contribute to a tidy environment and prevent litter.” VConsyst’s smart waste bin gives its own signal when it is in danger of becoming full, so that an emptying can be planned in time. In time, the Bammens Citypole Compactor can also be seamlessly added in the VConsyst Dynamics management environment. Notifications will then arrive at the customer centrally, as with VConsyst’s underground containers.
Smart network
A major advantage of the Bammens Citypole Compactor is that the number of empties can be significantly reduced. VConsyst’s smart compactor is expected to reduce the number of empties from 15 times a week to 4 times a week without compromising the clean living environment. This reduces the need for personnel who can therefore focus on other tasks.
“ROVA and we expect a lot from this pilot,” said Jochemsen. Safety is an important consideration in the development for VConsyst. “The waste opening is always open and large enough to dump waste without touching. Even if the bin’s contents are compressed, the insertion opening is safe to use,” Jochemsen explained. “This pilot is a big step toward a smart network of trash bins in city centers.”
