New cardboard column helps you out of box problems

Shopped online? Your new vacuum cleaner or laptop is neatly delivered to you. In cardboard packaging, which you still have to get rid of. Of course, cutting an overgrown, uncooperative box into small pieces is a lot of hassle. Then just stuff it in large pieces into the paper column if you can. Or, completely wrong of course, put the box next to the insert column. Recognizable?

Abomination

With the rapid rise of online shops, the boxes and thus the collection problems are literally piling up. An abomination for many Dutch municipalities. VConsyst product manager Hanneke Weststeijn: “Because of this trend, the existing paper columns were no longer able to cope with the ever-increasing supply of cardboard. You can fold the boxes, but after insertion they immediately expand again and then you get constrictions in the column. If a piece of box blocks access, the space in the underbody remains unused. So you can’t collect waste paper and cardboard as efficiently and you’re increasingly solving problems. So it was time to develop a new insertion column.”

Large pieces of cardboard welcome

Thinking ‘out of the box’, a new access construction was created that can easily handle large cardboard fractions. What immediately stands out about the new paper column is the enlarged insertion and the different insertion direction. Hanneke: “The throughput is now vertical instead of horizontal. You insert large pieces of cardboard directly towards the underbody instead of straight ahead. They have less time to expand and are less likely to get stuck. In fact, the paper column will soon be available with the new Chiplock® 4.0 access electronics.” Part of these electronics is the energy-efficient and solid lock with novelties such as easy access via your mobile or bank card. There is also a Bluetooth service app for the technician. Chiplock® 4.0 is connected to the VConsyst Dynamics platform.

Along the lines of Metro®

After a busy period of testing and development, the pilot phase is almost over. Hanneke: “We have constantly improved and refined the first prototypes. For example, we took an extra close look at the mechanism for opening and closing, so that operation is now very light.” The appearance remained virtually the same, Hanneke adds, “The new column does not differ optically and forms a logical whole with the Metro® model range. It can therefore be ordered along with columns for other fractions. Moreover, this makes production more efficient.”
The new paper column, the first copies of which will be available in November 2017, has more new features that prevent shrinkage. Would you like to be updated exactly? Then please contact your account manager or Sales Department, via our phone number (038) 385 7057.
